Minister Belliveau was taking a tour of Murphy Cove on the Eastern Shore on Wednesday, August 22 where the Scottish company “Loch Duart” (and their subsidiary “Snow Island Salmon”) wants to install 3 new salmon feedlots. When the minister arrived at the site on a tour boat he was met by about a dozen boats draped with placards protesting the project. Emotions were running high when very concerned fishermen, residents, tourism operators and wild salmon protectors were expressing their concerns about the long lasting negative impact of the proposed industrial salmon farms. The concerned people also blockaded the road briefly when Bellivau left the campground where his tour has been started.
